FBC Gallatin,
The Gospel, by its very nature is the good news that makes people new! If the message hasn’t produced newness in a professing Christian; they aren’t yet a true believer, because true believers are new… They aren’t perfect, but they aren’t what they once were. They have changed… Their change isn’t what saved them, but it’s evidence that they were in fact saved by grace through faith as we have seen the last few weeks.
And our series titled: Gospel Newness, has put this reality before us in 3 crucial passages, starting with Colossians 3:1-17 that has revealed that New Gospel Life at conversion is just what it sounds like… New!!!! And then we saw that newly converted Christan’s make up a New Gospel People from 1 Peter 2:1-12, and lastly, that the relationship between believers forms a New Gospel Unity from Philippians 1:27-30!
And all of these passages reveal that it’s the grace of God and the Gospel that creates this newness in us to begin with. And that we cannot boast about our newness, but that we must live in light of our newness, putting off our old sinful habits and practices, and putting on new thinking and living in the Christian life. And our own Gospel Newness at our conversions, make us connected with other believers to be one people of God, but also to be a loving, likeminded, and unified New People of God to live out the Christian life in the church to God’s glory!
Let us all thank God for our Gospel Newness! Let us all live in light of our Gospel Newness as well! Repenting when our fleshly oldness creeps in, and seeking to put to death the deeds of the body as Romans 8, and Colossians 3, and 1 Peter 2 reminded us! And let our God created Gospel Newness create a compelling community as one book title puts it, pointing to the evidence of God’s presence and genuine work among us, to create a powerful witness to unbelievers all around us. And let us pray to God for this evangelistic witness to catch on and make a Great Commission impact in Gallatin and beyond.
Sincerely,
Pastor Daniel Pelichowski
