FBC Gallatin,
The importance of teaching and discipling our children is fresh on my mind with the recent sermon from Deuteronomy 6:1-9 titled “Teach them Diligently” and I want to further encourage parents to love and lead their children to God’s glory in this newsletter. The pressing reality that our children are on a trajectory from our homes and even our churches going out into the world should give us all an eternal perspective. And it should give us all a target to aim at as we think about them as little children, as teenagers, and as future men and women. We should be aiming at teaching them biblical truths along the way, and preparing, and praying, and giving them a biblical vision of life. Talking to them about marriage, and future church involvement with their families, and careers, and leading them with this Christian worldview biblical vision ahead.
And as we saw recently from Deuteronomy 6, everything we do in our homes should be intentional, because that little baby will grow up. That elementary school student may one day be a mother to children and wife, or a father and husband. We need to lead with a vision of the future, and seek to be raising daughters to be godly biblical women in the world. And young boys to be future men as we teach biblical manhood and womanhood and prepare them for marriage and parenting and faithful church membership and service if they become Christians, and productive god-glorifying vocations wherever God has them…
And we need to realize that each if our kids are different, and we must not only spend time thinking about and leading the whole family. But also, individual children exactly where they are at, and exactly who God has made them to be. So, spend time leading and discipling your kids individually as well. Pray with them, and cultivate their gifts, and work on their weaknesses with them one on one as well in the day-to-day grind when you sit, or when you rise, or when you lie down for bed as Deuteronomy 6 reminds us. But whatever we do, we must have a plan and lead them because they need it. And have a vision and seek to implement that vision by taking steps in the things you do in your home in light of that vision for them as you seek to shoot them out as arrows into the world (Psalm 127:4).
Years ago, I preached a sermon titled; “Gospel Centered Children’s Discipleship” and you can see the outline on our digital church sign periodically as you drive by, and you can see here again below by way of reminder. And remember church family, to love them, to worship with them, to teach them (diligently), to disciple them, to correct them, and to lead them!
Sincerely, Pastor Daniel Pelichowski
