FBC Gallatin,
The summers are busy around here at FBC Gallatin, from camp, to the brotherhood men’s ministry baseball outing, to VBS, to a church picnic at the lake coming up on top of all the other activities we all have going on. And due to the busyness, I think it is so good to have the biblical worldview upon all of our minds to keep us rooted in the big picture storyline of the bible. And for many us to be able to spend 6 straight days going over the 7 C’s of Biblical History in Answers In Genesis Jungle Journey VBS is definitely a helpful biblical grounding not just for the students who came to our church for VBS, but for all of us.
And though we went through it teaching the kiddos, and then heard a sermon last week on the 7 C’s from Romans 8, I want to take some time going through them again while applying them directly to our busy Christian lives the rest of the summer. Starting with creation to remind us that we have an infinite personal God who acted to create the world in a perfect and very good kind of way. That we are image bearers created in God’s image, and that all creation was for our flourishing and joy. Sadly, the bliss of a perfect creation in a safe and peaceful garden did not last very long, as mankind fell into corruption when they first sunk their teeth in that forbidden fruit. Sadly, we are all walking evidences of that corruption, and the world around us is wasting away in decay and groaning and crying out together as we saw in Romans 8. And to make matters worse, the consequences of human sin led to catastrophe in the worldwide flood. Not only did Adam and Eve see the impact of their action in the sin of their children in the family murder that ensued as Cain killed Abel, but now God judged the world with a flood that wiped out all life outside of the ark. And after the ark things didn’t get any better, as the new group of people procreated and humanity’s sinful corruption continued all the way to the tower of babel and the confusion that ensued as God scattered the nations over the face of the earth as Genesis 11 reveals. So, from the good news of creation, to the bad news and consequences of corruption and catastrophe and confusion… Where do we go from here?
Thankfully, we can rest on some good news this summer, and always!!! We don’t go from good news to bad news and leave it at that. If that were the case, there would be nothing to live for. And certainly, there is nothing to live for without the last 3 C’s of biblical history. Because a fallen sinful groaning creation needed a rescuer. And a rescuer is exactly what we got with King Jesus! Christ the Messiah was prophesied about of old, born into this world in a miraculous way of a virgin, and lived a perfect life for us in our place because of our guilt and corruption, and died a substitutionary death as well in our place. Condemned he hung, not because of his sin, but because of ours. And he arose up from the grave on the third day proving that Jesus Christ covered and paid for our sins on the cross! And we not only get sin forgiveness and that is a big deal, because without it, we would be on our way to Hell, but we also get a future inheritance that outweighs even the most rich and famous of our day. And the promise of a savior who not only came the first time in the incarnation, but will come a second time to gather his people and judge the world and setup a new era for believers in the New Heavens and New Earth and consummation of all things.
Let us interrupt our busy summer with these 7 C’s of biblical history to align our minds on the biblical worldview, so that we might be encouraged, and intentional to tell our kids about it, and remind our fellow church members, and even ready to give an answer to unbelieving family members and friends with this good to bad to good and amazing news we have from the Bible!
Sincerely,
Pastor Daniel Pelichowski
